Ni Guangnan has been engaged in the research and development of computers and their applications. He has participated in the development of the first electronic tube computer (119 machine) designed by China. In the 1960s and 1970s, he carried out research on Chinese character processing and character recognition. He pioneered the automatic function in the process of inputting Chinese characters.
