This session will focus on assisting developers transitioning from Oracle, MSSQL, or MySQL to PostgreSQL.

You will learn about the key differences in PostgreSQL, including field types, namespaces, indexes, and essential schema maintenance techniques. We will provide a quick overview of how PostgreSQL handles high-performance updates and discuss the implications of the VACUUM process.

Additionally, we will cover best practices for setting column defaults and the advantages of using foreign keys. You will also learn about UUIDs in PostgreSQL, including how to create them and explore various use cases.

We will discuss the use of JSON in PostgreSQL and when it is most beneficial. You’ll discover unique PostgreSQL SQL features such as "DISTINCT ON," Common Table Expressions (CTEs), and more.

Furthermore, you’ll learn how to use stored functions to protect access to your data and how to debug these functions or procedures with assistance from Python and UDP messaging.

Finally, we will present several developer tools, such as Cyanaudit and DataWharf, that can help you track changes and visualize your schema more easily.
